In an age where our lives are intricately intertwined with technology and the digital realm, the pervasive threat of fraud and cybercrime casts a shadow over our every transaction and interaction. As we reap the boundless benefits of an interconnected world, we simultaneously expose ourselves to an array of risks that transcend physical boundaries. The need for understanding, vigilance, and preparedness has never been greater.

The previous paragraph was written by an AI program. I asked the program, Chat GPT, to write an introduction for a new edition to my book, “Cybercrime: How to Stay Safe from Online Fraud and Identity Theft.” It doesn’t exactly sound like something I would write – much to verbose for me. But I wanted to try it out for grins.

In the latest edition of my book, I added information about how AI can be used to help the bad guys commit cybercrime, fraud and identity theft. These growing crime problems were bad enough to begin with and really didn’t need a boost. From crafting more convincing trick emails, to using deep fake voices to extort money from unsuspecting family members, AI is being employed to help defraud individuals and businesses.

The key to staying safe from those who want our information, and our money is constant vigilance. Never let your guard down and always be skeptical of any requests for personal information and money.

In my next series of posts, I will talk about specific tricks the hackers use and how to protect yourself. As AI says: “The need for understanding, vigilance, and preparedness has never been greater.”
